Stargate: OpenAI, SoftBank announce $500 billion US-based AI data centre network; to create thousands of jobs

The Stargate Project works to create Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) that matches human cognitive skills.

During a White House press conference on January 21, 2017 OpenAI's Sam Altman, Softbank's Masayoshi Son, and Oracle's Larry Ellison joined US President Donald Trump to explain The Stargate Project.

The Stargate Project creates a network of data centers that serves as the core infrastructure for OpenAI's artificial intelligence operations across the United States.

Through their investment roles these companies will contribute a combined $500 billion over four years to the project.

OpenAI starts deploying $100 billion today to build their artificial intelligence system which they promise will keep the US first in AI technology while creating many US jobs and helping global economy.

The initiative helps bring back American industry while ensuring America's security and its allies' protection.

SoftBank runs the project financially while OpenAI operates its activities as lead partners.

Masayoshi Son serves as Stargate's top executive.

As partners Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Oracle, and OpenAI join the initial group of technology companies working with this project.

OpenAI reports that construction activities have started in Texas for their project. The company reviews several US locations to set up additional campuses while final agreements proceed.

In addition to Azure usage increase OpenAI plans to expand its Microsoft Azure training workloads.

According to Oracle's official statement the Stargate project will defend AI leadership for America while creating job opportunities and generating worldwide economic value.

This project will help bring back US industries while creating new security capabilities for America and its ally nations.

As the funder SoftBank will manage Stargate's budget while OpenAI handles day-to-day operations. MGX joins SoftBank and OpenAI to fund this venture.
